Meridian-Lauderdale “Purple and Gold Scholarship Banquet” - An Evening to Remember

The Meridian-Lauderdale Alumni Chapter of Alcorn State University held its annual “Purple and Gold Scholarship Banquet” on Friday, April 25, 2014, at the MSU Riley Center. Mr. Marcus Ward, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and the Executive Director of the Alcorn State University Foundation, was the keynote speaker. Mr. Ward mesmerized the nearly 400 member audience with his humor in highlighting the advancements that Alcorn has made and need for continuous financial support of Alcorn State University.

Dr. Alfred Rankins, Jr., Alcorn State University’s newly selected 19th President, was in attendance, along with his wife, Juandalyn. Dr. Rankins spoke to the audience, outlining some of his visions for Alcorn State University. Dr. Rankin was very well received.

Alcorn State University’s Awarding- Winning Men Choir provided wonderful entertainment for the second consecutive year. Also, sharing in the entertainment was Mr. Charles “CC” Carter and Mrs. Kimberly Morgan- Myles, Miss Mississippi 2007.

During the Meridian/Lauderdale Alumni Chapter’s “Purple and Gold Scholarship Banquet,” seven (7) students were awarded $1,000.00 college scholarships. In addition, the chapter presented Mr. Ward with a check for $20,000.00 for the Alcorn State University Foundation, which will be used to provide scholarships in various academic departments.

Indeed, an evening to remember!
